Come play with us! The Summerville Orchestra is looking to bolster our ranks with some of Summerville’s finest amateur musicians. We are looking in particular for violin, tuba, and percussion, but we welcome all to audition. Although these positions are unpaid, they open the door to great new friendships, connections, networking, growth, learning, and even more performance opportunities.

Our Groups
S.O. String Quartet/Quintet Chamber Ensemble
The S.O. String Quartet/Quintet is a chamber ensemble that performs regularly as part of the orchestra’s Encore Series and other orchestra events around town. The quartet/quintet also performs at private events. Its repertoire includes classical compositions.
SO Jazzy
The SO Jazzy ensemble performs a wide variety of jazz styles ranging from standard swing/blues to modern pop/rock. Set lists change depending on the performance, so there’s something for everyone. This ensemble is one of Summerville’s favorites!
Summerville Winds Chamber Ensemble
The Summerville Winds is a woodwind quintet encompassing the principal players of the Summerville Orchestra. The ensemble is passionate about performing in the community and local schools to expose children to the instruments and the unique woodwind combination of the quintet.
Summerville Flute Choir Chamber Ensemble
The Summerville Flute Choir is made up of 12 flutists who play flutes of all sizes, ranging from bass flute to piccolo. With a repertoire ranging from classical to Disney to pop, this ensemble is a unique addition for your next event!

Volunteer with the Summerville Orchestra!
Summerville Orchestra volunteers are the face of the orchestra at public events. We depend upon our wonderful volunteers to help concerts and events function smoothly. Our current subscription series includes five concert programs, performed on a Friday night and Saturday afternoon, and our chamber series includes many performances throughout the year. Join us!
Concert setup for mainstage productions:
- Thursday evening before mainstage concerts, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., at Summers Corner Performing Arts Center
- Must be able to stand for at least one hour, walk and carry boxes up to 5 lbs.
Concert day volunteers for mainstage productions:
- Friday or Saturday night, 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., at Summers Corner Performing Arts Center
- Assist with final setup and cleanup as required, plus additional responsibilities as follows:
- Greeters: Open door and greet attendees.
- Ticket Helpers: Assist attendees with picking up Will Call tickets, replacing lost tickets, selling available tickets and answering questions.
- Ticket Takers: Scan tickets as patrons enter facility.
- Ushers: Guide patrons to their seats.
- Program Distributors: Hand out programs to attendees as they enter the performance space.
- Mobility Monitors: Assist mobility-impaired attendees with seating as needed.
Concert help at chamber concerts:
- Assist as needed with setup/cleanup, assisting mobility patrons to their seats, distributing programs and answering questions.
- Encore Series concerts are held at Coastal Coffee Roasters, 108 E 3rd N St., Summerville, SC 29483
- Public Works Arts Center events are at 135 West Richardson Ave., Summerville, SC 29483
- Additional events to be announced.
Dress code for all events:
- Solid white top, solid black pants or skirt; flat or low comfortable dress shoes. If needed, suit jacket or dark jacket, or wrap or sweater in solid white or black. Tie is optional.
Background check:
All individuals must agree to a SLED background check (free to volunteers) prior to volunteering with the Summerville Orchestra.
