Volunteer with the Summerville Orchestra

The Summerville Orchestra relies on dedicated volunteers to help create exceptional arts experiences throughout the Lowcountry. From subscription concerts and educational programs to community events like Encore Series performances, Art Strolls and Music Chats, our volunteers play an essential role.

Whether you’re looking to volunteer occasionally or become a regular part of our team, we’d love to have you join us.

Volunteer Opportunities

Subscription Series Concerts

Community Events

  • Location: Summers Corner Performing Arts Center
  • 318 Gnarly Oak Ln, Summerville, SC 29485

Volunteers roles may include:

  • Greeters: Open door and greet attendees
  • Ticket Helpers: Assist attendees with picking up Will Call tickets, replacing lost tickets, selling available tickets and answering questions.
  • Ticket Takers: Scan tickets as patrons enter facility.
  • Ushers: Guide patrons to their seats.
  • Program Distributors: Hand out programs to attendees as they enter the performance space.
  • Mobility Monitors: Assist mobility-impaired attendees with seating as needed.

Volunteer Shifts

  • Concert Setup: Thursday evening before concert weekends
  • Friday Performance: Approximately 5:45 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday Performance: Approximately 1:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

  • Our community events include the Encore Series, Art Strolls, Music Chats and other special programs. Locations vary based on event.

  • Volunteers may assist with:

  • Guest welcome and check-in
  • Seating and accessibility assistance
  • Answering attendee questions
  • eneral event operations

Volunteer Requirements

  • Physical Requirements
  • Some volunteer positions may require standing for extended periods, walking throughout a venue, or carrying light materials and supplies.
  •  
  • Dress Code
  • For concert and public-facing events:
    • Solid white top
    • Solid black pants or skirt
    • Comfortable black dress shoes
    • A black or white sweater, wrap or jacket may be worn if needed.
  •  
  • Background Check
  • All volunteers must successfully complete a complimentary SLED background check before serving with the Summerville Orchestra.
